Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) - BioprocessH2O

Sequencing Batch Reactor is a modification of an activated sludge process where all the treatment occurs in one tank. The steps that are carried out in the SBR are fill, react, settle, draw, and idle. Each step occur one after another maintaining different conditions throughout the process. In this process there could also be two reactors for treatment. In one reactor the steps of filling and the reaction occur and in the second reactor settling, drawing, and idling occur. Utilizing two tanks and breaking up the process is important because it takes a lot of maintenance and power to run one of these systems. Each step has to be set at the right conditions or else the reactor will not be carrying out the correct process.
